Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not sure if my issue is a city or state problem. What should I do?

General rule is if it's on your street, in your neighborhood park, or involves your trash — it's probably the city. If it involves a major highway, your child's school, or a state benefit program — it's probably the state. You can always contact the office at (808) 768-5009 to confirm.

I reported an issue to your office and haven't heard back. What do I do?

Contact the office by phone at (808) 768-5009 and we'll follow up with your issue. You can also email Councilmember Tulba directly at atulba@honolulu.gov.

How quickly do you respond to resident requests or inquiries?

We aim to respond to all inquiries within 2-3 business days. For urgent matters, please call the office directly at (808) 768-5009, Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM.

I've never contacted a government office before? Is it okay to reach out for something small?

No issue is too small. If someone in your neighborhood isn't working the way it should, we want to hear about it. If it's outside of our district boundaries, we'll direct you to the right Councilmember.

Can I attend a City Council meeting even if I'm not testifying?

Yes, all City Council committee meetings are open to the public unless designated as executive sessions. You're welcome to attend and observe. The Honolulu City Council address is 530 S King St #202, Honolulu, HI 96813.
